The Washington Post Recently came out with an article explaining how their researching team found "Fake News Propaganda" used on the internet to drive voters to the right wing. The goal of these fake stories were to make opposing candidate Hillary Clinton. These paid  Russian human trolls and bots were used to spread fake stories on the internet about Clinton. From social media accounts to websites, Russia's Propaganda "portrayed Clinton as a criminal hiding potentially fatal health problems and preparing to hand control of the nation to a shadowy cabal of global financiers." All stories that cam out during the time of election were fake and fabricated. Fake news stories would even used the hashtag #CrookedHillary , the hashtag used in trumps campaign. On January 30th of 2018, a fake news story sparked controversy in the NBA league, and on social media. ESPN claimed that Lebron James would 'listen' to the warriors if theres a spot available, considering that Lebron would be a free agent next season. The story sparked a twitter trend, causing the cavaliers fans to react quickly, saying that they would never watch the NBA again. Golden State Warriors coach responded to the rumor during an after game press conference saying "you really want to ask me that? ... you know thats illegal I'm not answering that." on February 2nd of 2018, after a team practice, Lebron James addressed allegations, claiming it was "nonsense...its a non story.  my only focus right now if figuring out how we are going to get to the championships." NFL Lawyer, Who Claimed Super Bowl Is 'Rigged' Found Dead

On January 29, 2018 the YourNewsWire website published an article claiming that NFL lawyer, Dan Goodes was found dead in New York City, only hours after telling reports that Super Bowl LII has been rigged. But according to Snopes, it was all fabricated and just a hoax, and "The NFL employs no "entertainment lawyer" name Dan Goodes, nor did anyone by that name recently "blow the whistle" on "rigged" football games or die in a "gangland-style execution." All this false reporting stems from a hoax claiming NFL games are rigged. The photo above, which was the same photo YourNewsWire reported was the alleged crime scene was actually a photo from July 2017 new report about a Police officer who was shot.

Three Democratic Senators Busted For Running an Underage Prostitution Ring

It was reported that three Democratic Senators were busted for running a prostitution ring that involved girls as young as 12 years old. According to Snopes, "On 9 January 2018, repeat offender LadiesOfLiberty.net published an article reporting that three New Jersey state senators had been arrested in connection with a child prostitution ring". It was said that the three Senators who claimed were busted, Senator Sherat, Senator Longwell, and Senator Mackelroy, do not exist are those names were made up. LadiesOfLiberty.com purported: 

The origins of that ring have now been exposed more than 250 miles away in Crossfield, New Jersey, where three State Senators and the Democrat Party Chair for The Northeast have been taken into custody by a New Jersey "black ops" recovery team. 

The report is completely fabricated.

Google takes steps to combat fake news 'snippets'

Because Google has been under fire for displaying fake news on their "featured snippets", they have decided to revamp the feature. To improve the quality of results they have decided to display more than one snippet. Google is also making it much easier for people to directly flag content that appears in both Autocomplete predictions and Featured snippets. "There are often legitimate diverse perspectives offered by publishers, and we want to provide users visibility and access into those perspectives from multiple sources," said Matthew Gray, lead of the snippets team. It's a great thing to know that Google is looking out for its users and preventing us from fake news as much as possible.

Facebook modifies the way it alerts users to fake news

Facebook announced in December that they would be getting rid of their disputed flag, and instead be linking related articles next to the hoax ones. They believe it will give the viewers more perspective on the stories being posted, and it will be obvious what is fake. If a fake news story is shared then the person sharing will receive a pop up notification informing them of additional fact checking reports, according to their project manager Tessa Lyons. "Putting a strong image, like a red flag, next to an article may actually entrench deeply held beliefs-the opposite effect to what we intend'' Lyons stated in her blog.
