Sapna Maheshwari with the New York Times wrote the article, “How
Fake News Goes Viral: A Case Study.” The
case study is about man from Austin, Texas that had only 40 Twitter followers
at the time he posted a tweet, that was then “shared at least 16,000 times on
Twitter and more than 350,000 times on Facebook,” writes Maheshwari. Maheshwari goes into detail, tracking the
tweet and reveals just how many news sources were negatively impacted. The man from Austin, later reveals that he
would do his best to make sure his facts were true and would work harder at separating
fact from one’s own opinions, especially when there is a large audience like
that of Twitter. [ 1 image, 1 link, 2 quotations, 117 words]
