Many rumors have been spreading that if you do not register your number with the "Do Not Call Directory" your number will be given out to telemarketers. This has rushed many people to register before the deadline hit, since they didn't want their number being given out. To clear the rumors about this situation in March of 2013 "the FTC published “The Truth About Cell Phones and the National Do Not Call Registry”. This article states that "No numbers on the Do Not Call Registry are being released to telemarketers", so this should release some stress people were having about this.
