Smoking in Cars with Children Illegal as of January 30, 2018
We have lately seen online that it is illegal for people to
smoke in their cars with children inside (http://archive.is/9vfWZ). The law became effective on January 30th,
2018, aiming to protect children from secondhand smoking establishing a fine of
US$ 100 for those who violated the law. “According
to the Department of Health, when a child breathes in secondhand smoke, they
breath in thousands of chemicals, just like the smoker does” (
http://archive.is/9vfWZ). . The CDC has
conducted studies about secondhand smoke effects and they are “Secondhand
smoke causes numerous health problems in infants and children, including more
frequent and severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections, and
sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)”.
As per Snopes, there
is no such law and this article is just a copy of a previous hoax in 2015 and
2016. There have been attempts at state and local levels to ban smoking in
private cars with minors but never at a federal level. Some of these states are Arkansas, California,
Louisiana, Maine and Oregon within several.
