18 School Shootings for 2018

Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on 14 February 2018, marked what was falsified as the 18th school shooting for the year of 2018. This information was released on Facebook shortly after the shooting had occurred, by the gun control advocacy group Everytown for Gun Safety, and quickly was reposted, and retweeted by anti-gun lobbyist as a way to support more gun laws. “The problem is that it's not accurate. There haven't been 18 of what we would refer to as "school shootings" in 2018. The media is either sheepishly or deliberately moving the goalposts and widening the definition of what constitutes a school shooting.” wrote Siraj Hashmi. Everytown was using a lose term for school shooting, means that all of the numbers they had given were actually any events that involved a gun being shot on school grounds.
