David
Cox of NBC News recently published a
story which claimed that artificial intelligence will be vital in efforts to
stem the influx of misinformation on social media platforms. Cox writes that
the company, “AdVerif.ai launched an AI-based algorithm that the company claims
can identify fraudulent stories with an accuracy approaching 90 percent.” The
criteria the algorithm uses for determining which stories are fake and which
are real is also quite interesting. Cox states that this criteria includes “heavy
use of adverbs and adjectives as well as slang, simple sentence structures, and
relatively few commas and quotations.” Cox states that the difficulty in this
process is determining the truth of “stories that include opinions and other
statements that defy easy assessment.” [1 image, 1 link, 2 quotations, 121
