Users on Facebook have recently been in an uproar over
the service’s new algorithmic process for determining how many friends appear
on your news feed. The algorithm would allegedly limit the number of friends to
appear on individual news feeds at twenty-six. These concerns address the idea
that this new algorithm will severely limit the quality and amount of content
on each user’s news feed. However, Abby Ohlheiser of The Washington Post writes that while there are many differences in
Facebook hoaxes recently “they all seem to make a few of the same claims:
Facebook’s new algorithms will force you to see posts from only a handful of
your friends.” Additionally, Larry Magid of Forbes
writes that, “Facebook really did modify its algorithms… but you are by no means limited to 26 friends.” These recent concerns demonstrate how easy it can
be to allow fake news stories such as this to become viral. [1 image, 2 links,
