Florida Gun Laws
After the recent school shooting at Majority Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida there has been a lot of chatter about gun control. While reporting the event and giving hourly coverage as things unfold, CNN made a tweet that might not have been entirely accurate, claiming "you don't need a permit to conceal carry a rifle or shotgun." This was a hasty tweet made without doing some fact checking. According to a Floridian man and member of the Law Enforcement Community, and according to the law under The 2017 Florida Statutes, Title XLVI: Crimes, Chapter 790: Weapons and Firearms, 790.01 (2) states, "a person who is not licensed...who carries a concealed firearm on or about his or her person commits a felony of the third degree." The man noted for mentioning this, Luis Valdes, mentions that a person "cannot as a Floridian carry a rifle or shotgun concealed without a weapons permit...(the law) applies to all the firearms we can legally own." He goes on to describe the extensive details the law has about gun control, using a gun, firing a gun, carrying a gun and concealed carry. He explains how even as an officer there are few situations that will allow him to use his firearm. This is another example of a major new source releasing fake news to influence peoples views and opinions. [1 image, 3 links, 3 quotations, 228 words].
