Despite his own belief, the term "fake news" was not created by President Donald Trump. However, the term was reignited "when he used it to discredit stories about the size of the crowd at his inauguration". The term actually originates all the way back to the 1800's. Some journalists found that in 1898, people were being warned of the fake interviews and stories that William Hearst was making up and publishing in his newspapers. This was one of the earliest accounts of hearing the term "fake news". Fake news was, and still is, used to manipulate what the public thought about a situation.
