Link: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2018/02/11/oxycontin-maker-cuts-sales-staff-wont-hawk-drug-docs/327251002/ This article is titled: Oxycontin maker cuts sales staff, won’t hawk drugs to the docs. Basically the title does not relate at all to the news within it once you read it. Beware of USA today news! This article in summary explains how this drug is going to be replaced by other similar ones. This is because OxyContin is an opioid drug. This can be very addicting. Further evidence by the author includes this statement: “Purdue, a privately held company based in Stamford, Conn., is no stranger to the controversy. The company and three former executives pleaded guilty in federal court a decade ago to criminal charges of misleading the public about the addictive nature of OxyContin, paying more than 630 million dollars in fines and penalties.” Therefore a non opioid drugs will be promoted instead by sales representatives. Therefore this initiative is for the public welfare. Though people who really need this drug might still be prescribed by it by doctors. The main point is to reduce worldwide opioid abuse. There were most areas in this article which made the reader consider that sales representative’s jobs were at stake. The evidence contradicted this. The reasons why I suspected this to be fake news is because the title was very misleading, lots bias was included, and at the end of the article a credible individual stated that this drug will probably will not be discontinued.
