NRA Searches For Sinister Music to Play Over Protestor Footage

"The Onion" strikes again with a well-formatted fake article with just enough of a jab at the NRA to interest passing consumers. As a popular topic (gun ownership defenders versus activists), the new article provides a debatable subject to pull in readers whether they believe the fake news headline or not. The article also shows convincing credibility using terms commonly found in music theory such as "crescendo" and "slow progression of minor chords" (The Onion, 2018). "It has to be really creepy and dark-sounding, especially when it switches to the slo-mo of that 14-year-old smiling while the voice-over disparages his motives." (The Onion, 2018) The inclusion of a fake quote cited to "director Bryan Jenkins" from the NRA sells the story created by the title and cleverly created image.

  1. The Onion creates fake news for comedy. Go to their "About" page, and you will see what I'm talking about.
