Recently, CNN posted an article on their website detailing new conspiracy theories surrounding the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Author Nicole Chavez slams the “demonstrably false conspiracy theories” and fake news being spread about the shooting and rips on certain internet sources that are making “outlandish claims that some of the students are ‘actors’ working for anti-gun groups.” The author intends to single out these rumors as just that, and attempts to discredit them so as to prevent them from spreading further. Chavez continues on, referencing similar conspiracies that sprung up as a result of the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012, and condemning those who spread them.
