So.....Russia didnt help Trump now?

In a surprise move...note the sarcasm here, the Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee have reached the conclusion that Russia did not help President Trump win the 2016 election over Hillary Clinton. Elizabeth Preza of Raw Story writes that the committee has "concluded the interview portion of their Russia investigation and are moving to conclude the probe."

This group does not agree with the beliefs of the FBI, CIA, and NSA that Russia wanted Trump to win the election. The House Intelligence Committee said "evidence does not support" the beliefs of the U.S. intelligence community. So which is the fake news, Russia helping Trump, or the Republicans saying the intelligence community is wrong? This whole mess has wasted a lot of time and money over what? Russia to Romney; No Job for You?

Mallory Shelbourne's headline in The Hill dated 03/05/2018 is telling us that Russia stopped Mitt Romney from becoming Secretary of State for the Trump administration. The article is citing a New Yorker story about a former British spy named Christopher Steele that provided the magazine with the information from a "senior Russian official" as his source. This story goes on to claim that "individuals inside Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stopped Romney from becoming head of the State Department" (Shelbourne).

There is little in the way of evidence or more than it's just fun to report spy games in this story. As outspoken as Romney has been, I do not see him standing by while anyone, especially Russia, does anything to hamper him. The story wraps up with the statement that Steele "compiled an unverified and controversial dossier detailing Trump's alleged ties to the Kremlin." If nothing else comes from this presidency, it will definitely keep us all entertained with the stories and conspiracy theories.

Did Trump Back Down from NRA?

In a story that is sure to get the ire of the President, Jonathan Easley of The Hill, is implying that President Trump has backed off his comments about higher age restrictions and expanded background checks out of fear of the NRA. Sara Huckabee, the White House press secretary flatly stated "He hasn't backed away from these things at all", and "They're still outlined in the plan."

The submitted proposal is different from the emotional promises made by President Trump and they are all being pointed out as missing. The NRA was a big backer and financial supporter of Trump's campaign in 2016 so there could be loyalties there. It is interesting that there is talk about leaving some of the laws up to the states to pass instead of the federal government. I'm not sure if President Trump backed down or if he just can't get traction in a divided government. Either way this is a wild ride that has been going on for years already.

Putin Up With The Polls

Putin is spreading the image of a powerful leader on thick with his claims that just prior to the opening ceremony of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics,  Putin ordered a passenger plane shot down. Putin said in an interview with Andrei Kondrashov that he gave permission to shoot down the airplane with 110 passengers onboard because he had information that it had been hijacked, and was headed towards the ceremonies. Luckily for those 110 passengers information was quickly gathered that it had not been hijacked at all. When pressed about the time between both calls of information, Putin stated "I'd rather not talk about that."

Putin may not have wanted to talk about it but he is using the footage of the scrambling fighter jets, set to patriotic music, as a campaign message on his type of character as president. I do not think that such a bold, borderline sociopathic move would get many votes here in the U.S. Putin has a catchy campaign slogan too. How about "A strong president---A strong Russia!" It does not say if the incident is actually true or just propaganda, and with Putin it is hard to tell. I guess Russia doesn't mind Putin up with that kind of behavior.... For more on this story see:

Trump Shipwrecked in the Storm

The "fake news" of Stormy Daniels fighting back using a President Trump technique of offering to give money back. Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, is promising to give back a $130,000 settlement to keep her quiet if she is allowed to speak and release messages she has publicly. Trump has continually denied a relationship existed between he and Clifford.

Clifford has sent a letter to President Trump's attorney to see if the money can be given back and the deal taken off the table. Clifford's lawyer, Michael Avenatti stated "This has never been about the money." This certainly sounds like it is about the money to me. The texts, pictures, and voicemails are probably now worth way more than the measly $130,000 Clifford was originally paid.
